With almost four decades of experience in the financial and business world, I have had the privilege of guiding business owners and leaders through every stage of growth — from building strong foundations to preparing for successful exits.
Throughout my career I have managed a diverse portfolio of clients across many industries, addressing their complete range of professional financial and business needs. My focus has always been on practical business development, together with smart local and international structuring of businesses and groups.
Special areas of expertise include accounting, financial analysis and planning, business consulting and advisory, deal making and negotiations, internal reviews and investigations, as well as fractional CFO work and succession planning.
I have also been deeply involved in developing talent, having played a key role in staff, management and partner development programmes at Mazars. Over the years I have had the satisfaction of mentoring numerous professionals, management teams and partners both locally and internationally.
Today, I bring all of this experience to business owners in the Western Cape and beyond through two main channels:
- Integrated business consulting and advisory services: Helping you make clearer, more confident decisions.
- The Alternative Board (TAB): As owner of the Western Cape franchise, I facilitate peer advisory boards, provide independent business and personal coaching, and lead strategic planning interventions for businesses of all sizes.

Biography
1964
Born in Kuruman, Northern Cape.
Father was a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church and mother a teacher.
1981
Matriculated at Grey College, Bloemfontein.
1984
Obtained B.Compt Degree at University of the Free State.
1984–1987
Served articles at Theron du Toit, Bloemfontein.
1985
Obtained Hons B.Compt with CTA at Unisa.
1986
Married Annalene (married for 40 years).
1988
Qualified as Chartered Accountant (SA) and became member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
1988–1990
Worked at SARS Special Investigations Unit.
1990–1992
Audit Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Kimberley.
1992
Started own accounting and auditing firm: Pretorius, Heyns & Oberholster.
1998
Joined Enslins association of firms; became Managing Partner of Kimberley office.
Later amalgamated with another firm and moved to Bloemfontein to establish Enslins office there.
2008
Became Managing Partner of Enslins Bloemfontein.
2009
Amalgamated with PKF in Bloemfontein and became senior partner.
2013
Amalgamated with Mazars SA – remained senior partner.
2016
Became Managing Partner of Mazars Bloemfontein.
2023
Retired from Mazars SA to start own consulting and advisory business.
2024
Bought The Alternative Board franchise.
Appointed as international independent director to Juristax Limited Mauritius.
2026
Rebranded as Business Success Designer.

- Served on the Provincial Audit Committee appointed by the Northern Cape Provincial Government (2000–2006)
- Member of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board’s practice review committee (2 years)
- Provincial coordinator of Northern Cape Society of Chartered Accountants tax meetings until 2006
- Member of SAICA’s Small Practices Committee for 8 years (representing Northern Cape)
- President of Griqualand West Tennis Association (2002–2006) – focused on transformation and establishing a tennis centre in Kimberley
- Chairman of GMN South Africa (2006–2007)
- Represented Free State and Griqualand West in tennis at junior, senior and masters levels
- Member and captain of South African Senior (Masters) tennis team at World Masters Tennis Championships (multiple years including 2024)
- Represented South Africa at Great Britain’s International Tennis Club centenary at Wimbledon (2024)
- Multiple SA National Masters Tennis Championship titles (singles, doubles, mixed)
- Various school and association governance roles (treasurer, committee member) at Oranje Meisie Skool, Grey College, PKF, Mazars
- Proud father of 3 married daughters and grandfather of 4 grandchildren
